In quiet moments, when your thoughts won't let you fall asleep, play this music.
Alana Woods (harp) and Werner John (Native flutes, keyboard) have produced an exquisite example of the gentler musical arts. This 2007 recording features concert harp blending perfectly with deeper-pitched Native flutes, including the 1200 year old Anasizi flute. It's a rich and evocative musical journey, transporting you gently into realms of serenity and sleep (digital, 55 min.).

"Beautiful...the most peaceful music I've heard. Congrats." — D. Martin, Bear Creek Gallery
"As a practitioner of music and sound healing, I have listened to many, many examples of healing music through the years. After recent surgery, I was introduced to "Comfort in the Night," the latest effort of two master musicians Werner John and Alana Woods. This lovely marriage of harp, keyboard, and native flute was the CD I found myself listening to night after night during my recovery. It helped me fall asleep, and when I couldn't sleep, held me in a safe, mysterious and soothing place somewhere between earth and sky. Now I listen to it whenever I want to return to that peaceful place."

THE USE OF MUSIC AND SOUND AS MEDICINE IS THE MAIN THEME OF THIS 60 MINUTE FILM (available as DVD and VHS). There is a brief
history of healing, focusing on ancient Greece and
Egypt, where healing rituals revolved around music.
Also addressed are today's maladies, Aids, cancer,
and chronic fatigue syndrome. The program looks
at the uses of music in healing of other ethnic
groups such as Tibet, E. Indian (mantras), and Native
Americans. Included are scenes showing how music
and sound affect breathing, blood pressure, physical
fatigue. Case studies include interviews with clients.
One is an accident victim, one is at the dentist
office, and one is with a 5 year old girl who was
born without a corpus callosum, the part of the
brain that connects the left and right hemispheres.
Much of this film was photographed in the desert
and mountains of New Mexico.
